According to data research firm Pixalate, Apple and Google together removed 592,000 apps from their respective app stores in the second quarter of this year. Among them, Apple removed about 439,000 apps from its App Store, 87 times as many as the previous quarter.

As for why Apple removed so many apps in the second quarter? Pixalate said that 64% of them were removed because they had not been upgraded and maintained for 2 or more years, and 31% of the apps removed were due to no clear privacy agreement.

As early as April of this year, Apple issued an ultimatum to app developers who have not updated for a long time, requiring them to submit updates for review within 30 days, so that new users can discover and download these apps from Apple’s App Store, if the app developers do not submit an update within 30 days, their apps will be removed.

At the end of May, Apple once again required app developers to add the account deletion function to their apps before June 30, otherwise their apps would face the penalty of being removed from the App store.

Does it mean that the removed apps can not be used anymore? Of course not, Being removed from Apple’s App store only means that Apple has deleted the app from the App Store product page, and users can no longer download it, but users who have downloaded it before can continue to use it as long as the app doesn’t stop operating.
