All four models in the iPhone 14 series support the emergency satellite communications feature, which will be available first in the United States and Canada in November, iPhone 14 series in other countries or region such as Mainland China,Hong kong China do not offer Emergency SOS via satellite for now, but Apple will later expand this feature to other countries as well.

The feature allows iPhone 14 series to connect directly to satellites via Satellite Emergency SOS function, allowing users to send emergency text messages outside of cellular and WiFi coverage,  the phone's antenna can connect to satellite communications even if the user is out of range of cellular signals.

Even in outdoor danger scenarios, emergency rescue and other areas, the satellite communication feature is able to perform specific functions. By pointing the phone at a satellite communication location and sending a message, or by using the "Find My" app to share the location without sending a message, satellite communication can receive the message and provide assistance with rescue.

Apple says that with a custom short-text compression algorithm, it can take 15 seconds to send a message under "ideal conditions with a direct view of the sky and horizon" but maybe more than a minute to send a message "under a tree with adequate light".

Apple says the feature is free for the first two years, meaning there may be a fee to continue the service after 2 years.As Huawei and Apple bring satellite communication services to smartphones, more phone manufacturers are likely to "roll up" to this feature in the future.
